‘Together, Moving Forward’ New Projects Selected

The European Students’ Union launched in 2016 a small grants programme for student-led initiatives working to support newcomers equal access and participation in education and society. Since then, we supported more than 32 valuable projects, shared views with resourceful activists and creative change-makers.

ESU has been granted funding by the Open Society Foundations to continue with the Together, Moving Forward programme for the years 2018 and 2019. At the beginning of the year, five new projects have been selected:

RWAN’s mission is to help women with a refugee or migrant background to build on their past experiences. The project is aimed at closing the gap between them, the educational system and the labour market in Belgium’s community.

The project is a student-driven initiative assisting people with refugee status to access higher education programmes in Iceland and supporting them after being accepted in the studies programmes.

The project is an enlargement of the initiative already supported by Together, Moving Forward, in 2017. In the framework of the project, volunteers are tutoring refugee children, helping them with homework and the language (polish).

The project aims at developing workshops, cultural activities and orientation and academic support programme for refugees and asylum seekers living in Paris, France.

StudentRefugees is working to further the access and success in higher education for refugees in Denmark. The project is based in Copenhagen on the island of Zealand.

More information about the ongoing (and past) projects can be found here.

The last call for applications seeking new innovative local and national projects has been closed on the 28th of February. The selection of projects is now ongoing. Stay tuned by following us on Twitter (@ESU4Refugees)or on the project page!
