SciChallenge workshop at EUROMATH 2017

Thursday, March 30th, 2017, the European Students’ Union together with the Children’s University, Bucharest organised a workshop to support young people to participate in the international competition ‘SciChallenge’. This workshop took place during the EUROMATH 2017 conference, held between 29 March to 2 April in Bucharest.

Participants went through the different steps required to participate in SciChallenge competition, interacted with the competition platform and brainstormed ideas for their submissions. Children also discussed about various stereotypes around STEM fields, touching upon issues around gender equality and how a scientist should look like.

Applications are open until 30 April 2017. The 12 finalists will be invited to Vienna to present their projects in July 2017. All 12 winning contributions, who are represented at the award event in Vienna, will have the chance to get one of the three: Audience Awards (Vouchers): Rank 1: EUR 3.000; Rank 2: EUR 2.000; Rank 3: EUR 1.000.

SciChallenge is an international competition financed by the Hotizon2020 programme of the European Union. Children and teenagers between 10 and 20 years can choose among 50 themes from one of the following areas: natural sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics or an open topic related to STEM. Individually or in groups of up to 3 people, young people can develop projects in different formats: poster, presentation or video and get as many views and likes as possible.

The international jury will determine 12 finalists based on scientific content and online assessments.
