In recent weeks POFEN, the representative body of Cypriot students, has requested participation in the dialogue regarding discussion on austerity measures in Cyprus. POFEN is deeply concerned that in the effort to cut deficit, many rights of students’ and youth and their essential interests will be negatively affected in the process.

European Students’ Union (ESU) – the umbrella organisation of 45 national unions of students from 38 European countries – states that it is the right of students’ to participate in the dialogue and in the decision making process when issues concerning them and their rights are being discussed. ESU calls upon national governments and parliaments to accept and invite students as equal stakeholders in such occasions.
