Letter from the Chairperson

May has been a busy month for Higher Education in Europe. It has been an exam period for many countries, both literally and metaphorically. The Ministerial conference for the European Higher Education Area was held in Armenia, the EU education ministers met in Brussels, the EU country specific recommendations came out and the World Education Forum was held in Incheon.

Undoubtedly it has been a busy period with very important issues on the table that will resonate for years to come in negotiations and work. For the European Students’ Union our emphasis on student participation, the social dimension of higher education and the emphasis on quality education were common themes in several of these contexts.

For us, there were big challenges in the past weeks and we are happy with the results which you read about more specifically in the articles in this newsletter. We especially want to highlight the outcomes of the EHEA ministerial conference and the World Education Forum where we believe the student voice was heard and had substantial impact. Hopefully, the interest of the European Union on the social dimension of higher education will also have deep and lasting impacts for students.

Please enjoy our updates from the past weeks and as we go into June I hope you all have the opportunity to have calmer days and warmer weather than we have here in Brussels.

Kind regards
Elisabeth Gehrke

Chairperson
