ESU shows solidarity with demo in London
BRUSSELS – “Students take to the streets when politicians break their promises and their short-sighted crisis mentality damages our future. Today, European students stand together in spirit with those on the streets of London participating in the mass protest,” Karina Ufert, the Chairperson of the European Students’ Union says.
Thousands of students march today through central London to oppose budget cuts for education policies. The demonstration is organised by the National Union of Students in the United Kingdom. The protest highlights the anger students have with irresponsible policies, such as trebling tuition fees and withdrawal of direct public investment in teaching for higher education.
All those who are not in London can nevertheless join the live coverage on Twitter by using the hashtag #demo2012 and also go to the webpage for all relevant information http://www.demo2012.org.uk/ Ufert encourages students all over Europe to show solidarity with the protest in London.
“Politicians seem to be blind to the effects their budget policies have on young people. We are a generation with a debt in our accounts and no trust in democratic institutions. We, students, will open their eyes,” Ufert furthermore states.
