ESU debates doctoral students, equity and education

This week, the European Students’ Union organises its 57th Board Meeting and seminar. The seminar is titled “The link between Higher Education and Research, Equity and Doctoral Students”. During the BM, ESU’s members will elect new ESU representatives and discuss a lifelong learning policy paper, and a task force will discuss a long-term strategy and vision for ESU.

“All higher education should be research-based”, says Ann Fritzell from Education International, who spoke on the seminar’s first day.

“We aim at providing a cross-road of reflection into the complex and very actual problematic of doctoral studies. We will focus on the equity implications of the unevenly developed doctoral studies level and also on the necessary link between higher education and research”, says ESU Chairperson Ligia Deca.

The event is co-hosted by ESU and Students’ Parliament of the Republic of Poland (PSRP).

“It is a great pleasure for PSRP to welcome the participants to Poland. The ESU Board Meeting is an exceptional opportunity for the national unions of students to show support to each other in our struggles for a better, student-centered, academic environment”, says Bartlomiej Banaszak, president of PSRP.

An ESU Vision Task Force is currently debating an ESU long term vision and strategy, and  will hold its first face to face meeting in Krakow.

The seminar is funded with the help of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Commission.
