ESU at the 19th University of Youth and Development with OBESSU

The 19th University of Youth and Development, organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, took place between 10-15 September in Mollina, Spain. The main focus of the University this year was on the UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: The role of Young People in promoting peaceful and inclusive societies.

The UYD gathered approximately 200 people from all over the world, participating in 180 different activities to work on a diverse range of topics, going from gender mainstreaming to non-formal learning.

The European Students’ Union (ESU) had the opportunity to participate in the activity offered by OBESSU (The Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions) within the frame of a Policy Seminar called ‘’Young Advocates for the Educational Inclusion of Refugee and Migrant Students’’.

Together with high school students and other stakeholders from all over Europe, we gave our perspective and participated in the discussion that will lead to the creation of a Policy Paper concerning the inclusion of migrants and refugees in Education.

Moreover, this week provided the participants -students, organisations and youth in general- with valuable inputs on how to handle the creation of such papers on the inclusion of students from different backgrounds (e.g.: migrants, refugees and asylum seekers).
