SKRVS: Guarding quality in Czech higher education

The students’ Chamber of the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Czech Republic has established the Committee for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CQHE). Its aim will be to communicate with universities and their senates in order to maintain the system of quality assurance in Czech higher education.

Just seven months ago, the National accreditation office, the main body for the whole accreditation process was established due to the amendment to universities act. Considering the necessity of students’ perspective, this is the beginning of an unprecedented situation in higher education. The accreditation process will request many students to evaluate the quality of all Czech universities. Therefore the role of the main students’ representative body is more important than ever.

Based on current legislation, every higher education institution is required to have its own systems of quality assurance. This leads to various differences across the country, but the grounding principles remain.

The Student Chamber of the Council of Higher Education Institutions (SKRVS) and the Committee for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CQHE) will work on mapping all these systems. The aim is to help every school in maintaining the quality of their education.

Students are, of course, happy to see the importance of quality assurance finally increasing.
