Referendum on the University of Amsterdam

Decision making on topics related to the overall student experience in HEI should, whenever possible, take place in the lower levels of the organisation and always together with staff and students. The occupation of the University of Amsterdam was a call for a more transparent, democratic and decentralised university, which led to a referendum among students and staff on how their institution should be organised. ESU calls upon the board of directors of the University of Amsterdam to respect the outcome of the referendum on democratisation and decentralisation and to act upon it. ESU also calls upon the Dutch minister of education to heed the outcome of the referendum, and thereby give the University of Amsterdam the opportunity to experiment with new forms of governance.
