Participate in the feasibility study CALOHEE!
ESU will take part in a new project, co-financed by the European Commission in the framework of ERASMUS+. The project – called ‘Measuring and comparing Achievements of Learning Outcomes in Higher Education in Europe’ (CALOHEE) – aims to answer the questions above by developing the infrastructure that will eventually make it possible to test bachelor and master students’ performance Europe-wide across a range of fields.
We would like to invite you to participate in this study and to share input on your area of expertise. By participating, we offer you and your institution the opportunity to play a role in developing a fair, sustainable approach to comparing and measuring the achievement of learning outcomes in European higher education.
One of the important goals of this study is to determine if students are in fact prepared for their role in society (personal development, citizenship and employability) after graduation, while also meeting the academic standards associated with their area of specialization.
Methodology
The project will focus on 5 main subject areas: Physics, Civil Engineering, Nursing, History and Education Sciences (including Teacher Training). For each subject area, a working group will be created, made up of fourteen senior academics and one student. You will have the opportunity to work together to develop conceptual frameworks for your relevant subject area. The working groups will begin by updating the work that has already been done as part of the Tuning Educational Structures in Europe and other Tuning related projects.
Phase 1 – Update the Tuning reference point frameworks (subject framework)
Phase 2 – Develop the learning outcome assessment frameworks (tasks/skills)
Phase 3 – Design the multi-dimensional tests (ETS technical expertise)
Requirements
In order to participate in this study you will need to attend 3 working group meetings devoted to framework development over the 2-year period (2015-2017). We anticipate that these meetings will be intense but very rewarding professional experiences for all involved as colleagues to wrestle with the hard issues of what constitutes the most important learning outcomes in their respective fields. Travel and subsistence costs for these meetings will be covered for all selected participants.
The working language of this study is English. Participants are required to have a proficient level of English as part of being involved in this study.
Selection
Selection to participate will be decided by the CALOHEE Advisory Board. This board is made up of representatives from all major European university networks, higher education organisations and associations. We would like to have a diverse range of institutions represented from different types (research intensive universities and universities of applied sciences), as well as a mix of institutional profiles and approaches towards education and learning. Each university can only participate in one subject area, to involve a maximum number of Higher Education institutions in the project.

In cases where your institution is applying to participate in more than one subject area, (which we encourage to facilitate the selection process), we recommend that you assign one main contact person from your institution to receive all CALOHEE project related communications.
