A new generation of Student Experts in Quality Assurance

The European Students’ Union (ESU) hosted a training session for 21 student representatives from different countries, aiming to develop their knowledge and experience in understanding quality assurance policies and practices at European level. The training was organised in Brussels between the 4th and 8th of September.

The participants were members of ESU`s Quality Assurance Student Experts Pool, a structure which gathers committed and well prepared students across Europe who want to contribute to the enhancement of quality assurance in European Higher Education Area. The members promote the participation of students as equal partners in quality assurance processes at all levels and actively represent ESU in external reviews, when requested.

The training was facilitated by members of the QA Student Experts Pool Steering Committee, together with ESU elected representatives. The participants learned more about the Bologna Process and the revised ESG, shared information about their national QA systems and good or ban practices they met in internal QA, they discussed different models of student involvement in QA and simulated the participation in an external review. External stakeholders – as European University Association (EUA), European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) or European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), also contributed to the training by providing information about their activity in Quality Assurance and how students are involved in it.

The event was also a good opportunity to share experiences regarding the student movement from different countries and to create strong connections between students with the same goal of improving the quality of higher education in Europe and making it accessible for all.

ESU will continue in the near future similar training sessions for students in Moldova and Armenia, to enhance the involvement of students in QA processes in those countries.
