A new Chairman of the Students’ Parliament of the Republic of Poland

At the beginning of January, the new Chairman of the Students’ Parliament of the Republic of Poland, Mateusz Grochowski, began his two-year mandate. His team consists of 7 members of the Executive Committee, including two vice-chairmen. Mateusz becomes the chairman during challenging and difficult times for every student. COVID-19 pandemic changed the way universities operate for a very long time. His primary responsibility will be to defend students’ interests through information courses, campaigns, debates and interventions. As a Chairman, he will have the right to complain about the university’s decision to discriminate against students’ rights or break the student law. Despite difficult times, the Parliament is setting itself bold and ambitious tasks; one of the most important and main challenges for the upcoming term is preparing student postulates and extensive consultations conduction aimed at The Law on Higher Education and Science amendment.

The organization emphasises making every student, coming and staying in Poland, feel at home and trying to ensure that all issues are legally settled. International Officer Joanna Maruszczak supervises activities in this area. In case of any questions, you can reach out for help by writing to the address international@psrp.org.pl.

If any student feels discriminated against, Ombudsman for Student Rights, Mateusz Kuliński, provides invaluable help and is the best advertisement for the entire organization. He aims to intervene in cases of pathologies and violations of students’ rights at universities and undertakes numerous preventive actions to increase awareness of students’ rights and obligations. To make sure that every student finds the information they need on our website, we have prepared a series of graphics in English and Ukrainian (http://prawastudenta.edu.pl/infografiki/).

What is also worth mentioning is an integral part of Parliament’s activity – ‘The Comfort zone with PSRP’ project. Addressed to all students, based on mental health and psychological support. An essential part of this initiative is individual online help and professional consultations facilitated by psychologists. Thanks to this project, students can find answers to frequently bothering questions, e.g. how to deal with anxiety, how to use time productively, and what signals may indicate poor mental health of both ours and our loved ones. Students can use the support by registering at this address https://wsparciepsychologiczne.psrp.org.pl/rejestracja/ and choosing a convenient date.
