SIHEG – Student Impact on Higher Education Globally, an unprecedented comparative research project conducted by Dr Manja Klemenčič

On the 7th of July, ESU’s Board members (National Unions of Students) joined the Executive Committee during one of its handover sessions hosted by guest speaker Dr Manja Klemenčič, Lecturer at Harvard University.

The session featured an interactive discussion on student agency and the role of student unionism with Dr Klemenčič followed by an introduction to SIHEG – Student Impact on Higher Education Globally, an unprecedented comparative research project conducted by Dr Manja Klemenčič in partnership with researchers from the regional higher education student federations of the Global Student Forum, consisting of ESU, the All African Students’ Union (AASU), the Commonwealth Students’ Association (CSA) and the Latin American and Caribbean Student Organisation (OCLAE).

This partnership will put together both the largest and first-ever global international comparative research on student unions guided by twofold research questions:

(1) How do student organizations, student representation, and student politics compare across institutions and countries worldwide?

(2) How do students influence and enact agency in higher education (and society at large)?
