SAMOK: Anni Koivisto elected President for 2017

Anni Koivisto, aged 25, from the Student Union of Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMOK), has been elected President of SAMOK for the year 2017. SAMOK is the national union for students at universities of applied sciences (UAS) in Finland. Koivisto studies Social Services and has acted as chairperson of the Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMOK) this year.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to lead SAMOK and to work together with a great board and all the activists in the student unions. I am ready to do everything I possibly can in order for the voice of students to better be heard and listened to next year. Especially at this point in time, when historical cuts aimed at students have been made, we need a powerful and effective student movement to ensure that education and students’ circumstances are developed in the right direction,” says Koivisto.

Max Laihonen from the Student Union Helga of Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences was elected Vice President.

The members of SAMOK’s Board 2017 elected by the General Assembly are: Tommi Kukkonen from the Student Union of JAMK University of Applied Sciences (JAMKO),  Jyri Niemi from the Student Union of Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUO), Emmi Paajanen from the Student Union of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (METKA), Austris Stals from the Student Union of Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (Helga) and Anni Suvisuo from the Student Union of Laurea University of Applied Sciences (Laureamko).

SAMOK and the UAS student unions convened for SAMOK’s 21st General Assembly in Fellmannia, Lahti. The General Assembly continues until approximately 16h on Saturday, November 26th.
