ESU at the LLL Platform Week

The European Student’s Union (ESU) together with the Organising Bureau of European Schools Student Unions (OBESSU), the Association for Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE) and the European Association for Intercultural Learning (EFIL) have co-organised a panel on the relation of formal education, active citizenship and culture within the framework of the Lifelong Learning Week 2018 (LLLWeek), taking place in Brussels between  3-7 December.

The LLL Week has been a week packed with events, debates, receptions and launches on the key challenges impacting educational policies and movements, bringing together learners and educators, experts and policy-makers, thinkers and political representatives and giving them the opportunity to discuss today’s greatest educational challenges. In this framework, ESU has been present with a session called ‘Active citizenship and culture in formal learning’.

During the session, the invited speakers were exploring how cultural awareness and learning to learn contributes to active citizenship. Also, the debate has been focused on what are the European and global dimensions of the related competencies and what are the connection points of active citizenship to formal education and student movements in Europe through the sharing of experience, practices and concrete examples in this field.

In addition to the Panel, and also as part of the LLLWeek activities, Katrina Koppel, Vice President of ESU attended the ‘Lifelong Learning Interest Group, Investing in education and lifelong learning – how can the next MFF support Europe’s learners?’ meeting. She spoke about European Universities Network and the need for student inclusion and diversity in Higher Education.

This meeting was focused on how the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and the generation of EU programmes can support education, training and lifelong learning,t reflecting on how the next EU budget can foster this potential.
