ESU marks International Student’s Day

ESU is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with students and student organisations around the globe to mark International Student’s Day today, 17th November, commemorated for the last 67 years in honour of the more than 1200 students who died as a result of a Nazi assault on Prague University in 1939.

It is a day for reflection on the battles that students are still having to face across Europe and around the world as they try to obtain an education.  And it is a day which reaffirms our resolve to make quality higher education a choice and a right for all.  It gives added emphasis to our new student rights campaign, ‘Light on the rights’, and to our work on making the European Students’ Rights Charter which we developed last year a cornerstone of the new European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and a internationally recognised reference point for students and governments alike.
