ESU is glad to welcome the European Deaf Students’ Union as a new Associate Member!

With the occasion of the 69th Board Meeting in Cluj-Napoca, ESU members elected with unanimity the European Deaf Students’ Union (EDSU) as Associate Member. ESU was delighted to meet Bernadette Auersperg, Board Member of EDSU who participated to the whole Board Meeting 69 and Board Meeting Seminar. ESU ensured that international sign language interpreters were present to ensure a smooth communication.

EDSU was established in 2011 by Timothy Rowies from Belgium. It was first conceived as a Focus Group under the European Union of the Deaf Youth (EUDY). In July 2012, EDSU got an appropriately approval to become an official working group under EUDY. Then on the 11th of July 2014, EDSU became an independent organisation after the approval at the EUDY GA in Burgas, Bulgaria.

The European Deaf Students’ Union, in short EDSU, is an European non-profit independent organisation aiming for a society where sign language users and deaf people have an equal status and are recognised as full citizens in their own right. Sign language, Deaf culture, and the Deaf community should be fully accepted as being part of our rich European heritage.

The European Students’ Union is looking forward to a fruitful cooperation with the European Deaf Students’ Union to advance the idea of inclusive and egalitarian societies.
