Discussing Brexit and the future of education in Berlin

This week, executive committee member, Beth Button, attended the first in a series of high level dialogue meetings between sector leaders in education and culture within the EU.

Organised by the British Council, these events facilitate  discussions on the implications of Brexit on education and cultural sectors.

Participants aim to develop  a shared vision for how the sector can influence the process, and practical solutions for the problems posed.

Beth joined other representatives of higher education for a number of roundtables, where she articulated ESU’s concerns regarding the implications of Brexit for EU and UK student mobility, and highlighted NUS UK’s calls for international students to be removed from net migration targets. Beth also spoke of the importance of student political engagement, campuses being places for debate and discussion, and the need for higher education institutions to evaluate their role in society; reaching out to the communities they exist within.
