Join The ESU Team in Brussels! (Call for Information and Communication Officer)

ESU is looking for a recently graduated, creative team player to fill the position of Information and Communication Officer (ICO) at its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

The ICO will be responsible for:

1 – Managing and facilitating Internal and External Communication, namely by:

  • moderating internal and external mailing lists and internal online office space as well as ESU post correspondence
  • writing articles and compiling information for internal and external newsletters
  • screening external queries and requests
  • liaising with relevant media and related institutions
  • promoting ESU events, projects, publications, campaigns and statements to other stakeholders and wider public
  • co-operating with other ESU secretariat or elected members on ESU events’ organizing

2 – Upgrading and updating ESU’s institutional image, namely by:

  • upgrading ESU’s web-site and regularly updating it
  • developing promotional materials and contribute to development ofESU publications

3 – Further developing the administration of the organisation.

  • Cooperating with other ESU elected and secretariat members on ESU promotional and fundraising activities
  • developing the administration and backoffice of the organisation
  • finding new ways to facilitate better internal and external communications
  • sharing daily secretariat tasks with other secretariat members

Requirements:

  • a degree or comparable experience within the areas Public Relations, ICT, communication and/or marketing.
  • Knowledge and/or experience on promotional activities.
  • A very good command of the English language. Additional knowledge of one or more European languages is highly desirable, particularly French or Dutch.
  • Very good computer skills and web literacy.

The following knowledge or skills will be taken as advantage:

  • Any previous experience in the field will be taken into consideration but is not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of the European institutions and other target audiences related to Education will be taken into consideration.
  • Layouting and design skills.
  • Any working experience with non-profit student/youth organisation, preferably student unions, will be taken into consideration

Profile of the candidate:

A creative and innovative team player, able to work within a multicultural environment, being both flexible and able to stick to tight deadlines and also willing to travel occasionally

Terms of contract

  • The position is advertised for 37.5 hours per week agreement.
  • 2 years initial contract with a six months trial period.
  • 20 days of paid holidays
  • based in Brussels
  • the applicant must have a working permit for the European Union
  • candidates should be available to start working in September/October 2008.

It is expected that the motivation letter would clarify why you are applying for the job, what kind of special skills and benefits you would bring to the organisation and how your past experiences and/or education would support your work as ICO. Received applications will be evaluated against a predefined scorecard. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by phone in the beginning of September. At this stage candidates may be asked to perform small assignments to test their abilities and knowledge.

If necessary, final applicants will be invited to attend a face to face interview in Brussels in September. ESU will reimburse any travel costs for attending such interview.
