Since 1982, it has represented and promoted students’ educational, social, economic and cultural interests at a European level towards all relevant bodies (European Union, BFUG, Council of Europe, and UNESCO) in the Education sector.

About the Position
An experienced, motivated and committed individual to be our next Communication Assistant. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about democracy, inclusion and sustainability and wants to make higher education policy-making more understandable and accessible to everyone!
- Location: Brussels, Belgium
- Starting date: February/March 2026, exact date to be confirmed
- Type of contract: Contrat d’immersion professionnelle / End of studies traineeship.
- Duration: Six-months fixed-term contract, with the possibility of requalification at the end. Employment contract under Belgian employment law with a benefits package. (37.5 hr/week).
- The gross monthly salary, according to the Commission Paritaire 329.03 currently applied at ESU, is 1 055,98€, plus attractive additional benefits (transport, food vouchers, per diem during occasional travel, etc.).
- Flexibility about home-teleworking some days per week with a 50€ monthly allowance compensation.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Assist the Communication Manager in the management of the organisation’s social media profiles (Facebook, Blue Sky, Instagram, LinkedIn) and the organisation’s website (WordPress);
- Producing graphic materials (mainly for the website and social media): photos, videos, reels, infographics, podcasts;
- Participate in updating and implementing ESU’s Communications strategy;
- Promoting ESU events, projects, publications, campaigns, statements and policies to other stakeholders (NGOs, relevant EU institutions, policymakers) and the wider public;
- Management of the Google Workspace platform, internal email lists and internal communication platforms (Google Apps, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom);
- Collaborating with partner organisations and participation in project-related communication and dissemination of European projects (Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, CoE);
- Liaising with relevant media and related institutions; sending Press Releases when relevant in coordination with the Presidency and the Executive Committee teams;
- Support the monthly newsletter The Student Voice, including drafting articles, formatting content through Mailchimp, updating subscriber lists, and coordinating contributions from elected representatives and project teams.
The list and distribution of tasks are illustrative and subject to change based on the candidate’s priorities, initiative and career growth.
The Secretariat of ESU is small, the workload varies according to project cycles, application and reporting periods, therefore project teams assist each other during times of higher workload.
Eligibility requirements and skills/abilities
You are an ideal candidate for this position if you:
- Students in MA within the areas of Communication, Graphic Design and/or Marketing;
- Knowledge and/or experience in promotional activities;
- Very good computer skills and web literacy;
- Excellent visual skills with a lot of creativity;
- Willingness for on-camera presence for promotional activities and good verbal communication skills;
- Able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, international environment;
- Interest in education-related issues;
- Knowledge of project management will be considered an asset.
The position might require travel in Europe several times during the year, fully covered by ESU, and occasional weekends, which would be compensated.

Deadline to apply and agenda:

- The selected person should start working in the Secretariat of ESU by mid-February / beginning of March.
The selected candidate will need to reside in or relocate to Belgium when the employment contract starts.
