Historic First Round of UNITA Student Assembly Elections Concludes Successfully!
The first-ever elections for the UNITA Student Assembly have successfully concluded, marking a significant milestone in student representation across European university alliances. This innovative, fully digital voting process empowered thousands of students to shape the future of their universities, ensuring that their voices are heard in key decision-making spaces.
The UNITA Student Assembly has built and applied a whole process for the democratic elections of student representatives in the Boards of the Alliance. Student representatives are included with voting rights at every level of the decisional process, from Governance Board and Quality & Evaluation Board, until each Task Team.
Elections have been held on a e-voting platform, ensuring safety, privacy and coercion prevention for all voters.
The participation of students in decisional processes reflects the growing commitment to democracy, inclusivity, and active citizenship within the academic community. By electing their representatives, students have taken an essential step in shaping a more collaborative, student-centered university environment—one that fosters innovation, equality, and meaningful change.
This is more than just an election; it is a movement towards stronger, more connected academic communities that recognize students as active participants in shaping higher education. As the newly elected representatives begin their work, they will play a crucial role in advocating for student needs, influencing policy, and strengthening the European university network.
Beyond UNITA, this pioneering electoral process serves as a model for all European university alliances. Its adaptability allows each student community to interpret and apply it in ways that best serve their unique needs, fostering even more democratic, inclusive, and forward-thinking academic environments. Bringing this system to other alliances will amplify student voices across Europe, ensuring that higher education remains dynamic, responsive, and truly representative of those it serves.
