In Europe, the recognition of experience and skills developed by students in the course of civic activities, personal commitments or extracurricular activities is a challenge for teachers, as for the students themselves.

At European level, this issue naturally fits in the democratic project of strengthening citizenship. As such, it is one of the pillars of the Bologna Process, which builds on the commitment of the students and grants them the status of key stakeholder in the development of higher education.

This project has the ambition to provide a comprehensive framework of ways to overcome resistance and facilitate a fair and equitable recognition of extra-curricular learning and of well-identified and evaluated competencies.  This project will bring together all interested parties (students, teachers, employers, policy makers and heads of higher education institutions) to develop a methodology, adaptable to the different institutions and member countries of the of Bologna Process. This kit should help accompany stakeholders in their approach to recognition of informal learning.

This project should allow:

1) institutions that want to (or should) in France in 2017)  follow a common methodology enabling them to recognize informal learning in accordance with the ECTS version 2015 and to ensure that the quality is guaranteed internally

2) to allow the quality agencies to take into account in their assessment of the schools with the competences related to the informal learning, ensuring that the quality is assessed in accordance with the European Standards and Guidelines – ESG version 2015;

3) to accompany students and to help them choose their extracurricular activities, or even encourage them to build them, strengthening their place in higher education institutions.
