Teaching Excellence in Israel (TeachEX)

Description:

TEACHEX is a proposal to promote and implement innovative teaching methods and approaches that help instructors teach more effectively. The importance of TEACHEX is its goal of retraining academic staff. It emphasizes professional development as an element to include in QA processes which is not the case for Israel yet.

This project is consistent with most recent international trends and EU policies in the domain of in-service training, related to the Lisbon and the Bologna processes that Israeli partners aim to meet. In this context, the formation on topics like modular-competence-based curriculum and the broad introduction of learning outcomes and mechanisms for comparability of ECTS would establish a consistent frame of reference for continuous professional development of academic staff and thus contribute to the development the quality ofeducation in Israel and educational cooperation with the EU.

One of the main objectives is to create or reinforce existing structures for academic staff development, to be renamed as CTEs. These centers will operate in accordance with standards of quality of student centered approaches and experience while promoting continuous professional development of faculty member skills, knowledge and understanding in their complex and challenging roles as teachers and opportunities for applied research in the field of HE pedagogy. In turn, these centers will increase the quality of higher education benefitting both staff and students. Additionally, the edition of handbook or guides for best practices on particular areas for teaching development related to learning and teaching methods focusing in active education – providing enterpreneurial skills to students, problem-based solving, project-based solvind, case scenarios – and ICT (elearning, mlearning and MOOCs) will contribute to collecting state-of-the art portfolios in pedagogic methodologies.

Another important formation which builds upon previous projects is the provision of tools towards the internationalization of education, like the use of learning outcome, comparable programs using ECTS, use of DS, etc. Other areas of formation are related to coping with diversity in the classroom and promoting multi-cultural approaches to teaching and learning and bridging the digital gap (and generation gap) between staff and students.

The project also attempts to develop a digital portfolio for teachers and create a tool for their self performance and their evaluation as part of the quality assurance system. Likewise, a digital repository will be created to collect all training materials developed during the project and with easy access for registered users.
